Field mission in Cibitoke

Cibitoke: work on the new aqueduct starting in FebruaryEmanuela , the coordinator of AMU projects in Burundi, is currently on a field mission in the province of Cibitoke, to monitor the progress of the work undertaken thanks to the project Water source of life and development in Cibitoke and for a series of meetings. However, there is also great news, which will become concrete starting in February.

A new phase of the project: the Rubirizi-Rukana aqueduct

In February, work will begin on the construction of a new aqueduct on the Rubirizi-Rukan axis that will bring drinking water to areas where it has never reached. This phase of the project sees the collaboration of the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference). Cibitoke: work on the new aqueduct starting in February

The aqueduct will mark a real improvement for the life of the communities. Along its axis there are strategic points where fountains will be built, especially near some schools: children will thus be able to – finally – use clean water to drink and wash their hands. In front of the secondary school of Rubirizi, for example, a structure with six taps will be built. This is a substantial improvement for those who live on these hills, to the advantage of hygienic conditions and therefore the health of children and adults.

Meetings in Cibitoke Province

Arrived in Burundi, Emanuela – accompanied by some representatives of CASOBU, local partner of AMU: Judith , director of Cibitoke: work on the new aqueduct starting in Februaryprograms and Dimitri i, coordinator of the project Water source of life and development in Cibitoke – met with members of the local administration of the two municipalities involved in the works, Rugombo and Mugina. The head of the governor’s cabinet, Anicet Said i, the administrator of Rugombo, Manirakiza Gilbert and the administrator of Mugina, Nzobakenga Delphin renewed to Emanuela their satisfaction with the project, and underlined its concrete usefulness.

Meanwhile… the 35 ecological latrines are almost finished

The construction of the aqueduct is only the completion of a long journey, which began with a complex and precise study of the needs of the inhabitants of these hills. In addition to the aqueduct, the works include the construction of 35 latrines , which are now almost finished, and which were built with the support of the Emilia Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions. But we will talk about their completion and the impact they are already having on the life of local communities later.
