Lebanon is going through a huge crisis, which has worsened over the past three years as a result of the Covid19 pandemic and the Beirut port explosion in 2020. Currency devaluation, rising prices (three-digit annual inflation), fewer healthcare options, frozen bank accounts, lack of public electricity, and problems with the water supply system are the current consequences. Access to medicines and treatment for many people is becoming increasingly difficult, as the price of medicines is no longer subsidized by the state, which has decreased spending on the health system by 40%. Even subsidized medicines, such as cancer drugs, are unavailable due to shortages caused by the high debt accumulated by the state with foreign suppliers ( Amnesty int. ). Dialysis patients have great difficulty in obtaining treatment, as the Ministry of Health does not have the means to subsidize treatment ( Reliefweb appeal dialysis medicine Lebanon ). The SOSTENIAMOLibano project was launched in 2021 with the aim of providing medicines and health services to economically vulnerable people. To date, medicines have been distributed regularly, allowing the prosecution of medical treatments, also thanks to the provision of economic aid. Our goal is to continue supporting and meeting the medical needs of Lebanese families, so that children, young people, adults and the elderly can continue their medical therapies.
